The Silver Fire was detected on the morning of August 23rd, after a thunderstorm the night before produced multiple lighting fires across the region. Two other lighting fires in the immediate area, Silver Dollar 2 and Middle Silver Fires, exceeded initial attack efforts and merged with the Silver Fire. The fire is burning in the subalpine zone in rocky terrain on the southeast side of Silver Dollar Peak, near Roman Nose.
