The Rio Escandito Fire in Hamilton County started on the afternoon of August 24, 2026 under elevated fire conditions. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters and heavy equipment at 1:20 pm and responded quickly. Texas A&M Forest Service is currently in unified command with local departments.Heavy equipment and aviation resources are assisting with suppression efforts.UPDATE: August 24, 2026 at 4:00 pm- Evacuation orders have been issued south of County Road 415 between Cow House Creek and Hwy 281.
