July 25, 2026A storm moved through northern Harney County on July 22, 2026, yielding hundreds of positive lightning strikes. The Bald Mountain Fire was discovered on the afternoon of July 23, 2026. Initial attack resources from the Burns Interagency Fire Zone, Rangeland Fire Protection Association and the Egypt Fire responded promptly but were unable to contain the fast moving wildfire. Southern Area Team 2 is responsible for management of the fire, along with the Stubble, Crater, Second Flats and Jackass Butte fires.
