July 25, 2026A storm moved through northern Harney County on July 22, 2026, yielding hundreds of positive lightning strikes. The Second Flat Fire was discovered on the afternoon of July 24, 2026. Initial attack resources from the Burns Interagency Fire Zone and the Egypt Fire responded promptly but were unable to contain the fast-moving wildfire as it spread over twelve miles in seven hours.
