September 12, 2026The Benson Fire started on September 12, 2026, in Menard County and was responded to by local fire departments. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters and heavy equipment at 2:58 pm and quickly responded. Texas A&M Forest Service is in unified command with local fire departments. Aviation resources including Air Attack (AA), Large Air Tankers (LATs) and Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) were ordered to assist in suppression efforts as dozers construct containment lines.
