The Red Gate Fire in Schleicher County started during the early afternoon of Monday, September 7, 2026. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance to local fire departments in the form of additional firefighters and heavy equipment and responded quickly. Texas A&M Forest Service continues to operate in unified command with local fire departments.Update: 6:30 pm, Monday, September 7 - The fire's forward progression has been stopped. All bulldozers are currently constructing and improving firelines, but are slowed by rocky terrain. No fire departments are available to assist…
