August 19, 2026The Cherry Peak Fire was detected on the afternoon of August 18, 2026. The fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain with timber and grass. Initial fire activity included running and single tree torching. The fire is lightning caused and full suppression tactics are being implemented.The Lolo National Forest Type 3 Organization assumed command of the fire the morning of August 19.Closures: For firefighter and public safety, Forest Service Road 420 is closed starting August 21 due to firefighting operations on the Cherry Peak Fire.
