The Border Fire is located within the Boundary Creek drainage, approximately 3 miles west of Porthill, Idaho and directly along the border with Canada. The fire was ignited by lightning on August 25, 2026 . It is burning on a steep, southeast-facing slope in mixed conifer forest with moderate to high loadings of 1000-hr fuels and deep duff layers.The Northern Idaho Blue Team assumed command of the fire on August 29, 2026, at 7:00 am.
