September 12, 2026The Highland Fire started on September 12, 2026, in Wichita County and was responded to by local fire departments. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters and heavy equipment at 4:04 pm and quickly responded. Texas A&M Forest Service is currently in unified command with local fire departments. Aviation resources including Air Attack (AA), Large Air Tankers (LATs) and Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) are assisting in suppression efforts as dozers make good progress constructing containment lines.
