August 20, 2026The Windmill Fire started Aug 19, 2026 and is located 8 miles north of Reed Point, MT. It is burning in varied terrain with a mix of grass, sage, juniper and timber. Energy infrastructure is threatened. Initial attack operations was handled by local volunteer fire departments. The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (MT DNRC) County Assist Team (CAT) took command of the fire on Aug 21, 2026 at 0600. As of August 24, 2026 the Windmill Fire is 100% contained.
