The Camp Creek Fire was spotted by Jumbo Lookout around noon on Friday, August 21. The fire is located in the Danaher Creek drainage, about 3 miles northeast of Jumbo Mountain, and is burning in heavy timber in the valley bottom. The fire area is closed for public and firefighter safety.Smokejumpers and local firefighters were inserted for initial attack, joined by ground crews. Fire behavior was active with short-range spotting and a short crown run, increasing the fire to over 70 acres within the first 24 hours and 6,500 acres within 48 hours, making fire suppression efforts challenging.
