The Shotgun Fire started on August 30, 2026 near County Road 410 in Callahan County and spread to Burkett County. Eight local fire departments responded to the fire. The Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters and heavy equipment. Texas A&M Forest Service worked in unified command with the local fire departments.Bulldozers constructed firelines in rough terrain and engine crews completed a burnout operation to secure the head of the fire during the early morning hours on Monday, August 31.
